Kouga Tourism

Situated east of the Garden Route of South Africa, the Kouga Region is not only home to the world’s best Point Break at Jeffrey’s Bay and the Baviaans Mega Reserve Wilderness – a world heritage site. It is the home of the very spirit of the Khoisan, the world’s oldest cultural group.

Kouga Heritage Route

The Eland is a sacred Power Animal to the Khoisan. Rock paintings depict Eland caught by the Shaman (priest) in trance. The Khoisan believe that ‘Eland’ brings enlightenment & vision.

Kouga Wave Route

The power of the Indian Ocean, the purity of the dune fields, the allure of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and sunsets that touch the soul. A Place of dreaming… Yes. As you follow the dolphins and whales on the Kouga Wave Route, don’t be surprised when you feel as invigorated as if you had just surfed the world’s most perfect wave… which, of course, is to be found right here.

Kouga Valleys Route

Flowing through the valleys of three mountain ranges, the Gamtoos River is ‘the lion river’ and prime life-giver of the valleys in the region. Soar with Black Eagle over the wilderness peaks, patrol with the Fish Eagle along rich flood plains to the estuary, with its rich bird and fish life. Don your hiking boots and fuel up on the organic farm-fare as you explore seven biomes and thousands of hectares of world heritage wilderness area.
