History of the Hadeda Tournament
In May 1989 Wayne Smith, then with Lexington in Port Elizabeth approached the Club Captain with the suggestion of starting a tournament on the lines of the Jock of the Bushveld.
After due deliberation the committee decided to go ahead. As this would be the first time a tournament on these lines was held outside the Transvaal, the sponsors, Lexington, in the persons of Wayne Smith and his manager, Piet Steyn, were anxious that The Hadeda be a success. A very enthusiastic organising committee got going and a very enjoyable tournament took place early in October 1989.
The rest is history and today people come from all over South Africa to enjoy the beautiful Hankey Golf Course and the festival atmosphere of the Hadeda Tournament.
