Stellenbosch Golf Club a classic Parklands course in the Winelands

Stellenbosch Golf Club is located in the historic university town of Stellenbosch, 30 min drive from Cape Town. It’s in the heart of the Cape Wine Route and close to Franschhoek, Paarl and Somerset West.

Stellenbosch Golf Club has already celebrated its centenary, but it was only in 1953 that it grew from a 9-hole course into 18 holes. It has a championship layout that has hosted many prestigious tournaments in the past. Amongst others, the South African Open and South African Masters were hosted at this picturesque 18-hole layout. The 1999 SA Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club proved to be one of the toughest Opens in the last decade.

About the Course: The course makes for a lovely stroll, and it’s generally a pleasant layout for all skill levels. The par 3 seventh (131m) is the signature hole at Stellenbosch golf club, but it’s really holes 6,7 and 8 that stands out. The par 4 sixth plays at almost 400 metres to an elevated green( picture below), with the added twist of an approach that offers you the chance to fly it right over the corner of a vineyard. You then negotiate the downhill seventh before changing direction to tackle the par 5 eighth with it's intimidating tee shot, it’s semi-blind and played to a fairway sloping left towards yet another off-limits vineyard.
