CANSA highlights the care and support it has provided to cancer survivors that has become synonymous with ‘Hope and Care’ in the last 80 years. “CANSA wants to encourage cancer survivors to live life to the full and to see themselves as a survivor from the day of diagnosis,” says CANSA’s CEO and cancer survivor of 29 years, Sue Janse van Rensburg. “CANSA is part of the cancer survivor’s journey and together we will do whatever we can to ensure that there is always hope.”
"CANSA is a community-driven and volunteer-based organisation that has been fighting cancer and helping to save lives for the past 80 years. Started in 1931 by a group of medical professionals concerned about the high incidence of cancer, CANSA has grown to become one of the leading cancer NGOs in the country with 74 offices around the country and more than 14 000 volunteers and 353 staff members."
A new ball that’s saving golfers’ lives
Golf ball technology is renowned for its ability to allow players to hit the ball further or with greater control. Millions are spent on marketing the latest golf ball technology, and equipment companies will invest up to $200-million in the research and development of a new ball. But in South Africa, a revolutionary little ball is quite literally saving lives – off the fairways.

More about Sanlam Cancer Challenge: "Sanlam and CANSA have partnered the Sanlam Cancer Challenge since 1993. The purpose of the challenge is to raise funds and awareness annually for the fight against cancer. Over 40 000 golfers play in more than 800 club competitions held around the country in support of CANSA’s prevention programmes and patient care services throughout the year."
I am convinced that every amateur and even some professional players (when they were still amateurs) in South Africa played in a Sanlam Cancer Challenge Golf Day at his or her local golf club! This image below prove to you that I played in many, had FUN and even won some of these events! Playing the regional and final events were certainly highlights of my amateur career!
