More than 50 PGA Professionals from all over SA and Mauritius (Ryan Dodds) returned to the Links for three days of great golf, camaraderie, story-telling and even some good education. This year’s event, sponsored by WBHO and Global Golf (AHEAD), was really appreciated by all of the attendees. In addition to the multiple formats we played over the two days, the annual “Shoot-out” on the 17th proved to go beyond Vaughn Tucker’s heroics from last year – with Jayde Tannous and Marius Schutte both finding the bottom of the hole – not one but TWO aces! Our own Dave Mills teamed up with good friend and SA Teacher of the Year, Ben Fouchee to take the Team event with Ben paying great golf in great conditions to capture the individual prize! With 50+ professionals in the field, Skins over the Field were hard to come by. However, on Day 1, four were made by the guys – led by The Els Club, Juan Geyser’s eagle on 12. On Day 2, there was only 1 Skin, a birdie on the 2nd by James Wade from CT – that earned him a cool R1200!
As usual we kicked off the event gathered in Jack’s Bar for the final round of the OPEN Championship. Phil Mickelson’s victory may have been less dramatic than Ernie’s last year – but his fine 66 on the last day did not disappoint the crowd. On Monday morning, after our PGA AGM (where I stepped down after 15 years on the Board and Committee of the PGA making room for Justin to come on), Alan Crossan from Retail Tribe, the team who produce this newsletter, gave another motivational talk to the attendees! Monday night’s return trip to Christie’s Catch was a hit with the Pros – but not as big a hit as the draws for a weekend at San Lameer, presented by their new Director of Golf, Meyer DuToit or the week long, 7-night stay at the Heritage Resort in Mauritius, presented by Meyer and Kirsty Dodds. Ryan presented a great welcome clip showing off the resort and then after eliminating 50 pros by making then sit down one by one as their names were drawn, the prize went to none other than, Justin Roux! That made for a sweet end to a long and memorable weekend at St Francis Links!
Dear Jeff,
I would like to thank you and your whole team for a fantastic couple of days and a well-run tournament! Everything was yet again extremely well organized and your staff has done an outstanding job. The course is in an immaculate condition and although my golf didn't do it any justice I still enjoyed playing it. Please convey my compliments to Charl and his team. A big thank you to all the sponsors, Langley Perrins and Ian Eveleigh from AHEAD and Mike Wylie from WBHO - thank you!
It was great to see the camaraderie between all the Pro's and I always enjoy meeting some new faces.
Jeff once again thanks for everything, you are a legend and I’m very privileged to have you as my mentor and friend. I’m looking forward to next year’s event.
Kind regards,
Meyer Du Toit

Jeff,
A short note to say thank you for inviting me to be part of your Road Trip event. It was everything that I expected it to be and more…
The greatest testimony I can give you is that when my wife picked me up from the airport, she said that I looked and sounded happier than I have been in a long time! Clearly you and St Francis Links are good for the soul
Please also pass on my thanks to your amazing partner in life, Liezl.
Pards, you are an inspiration to many, myself included. If I can do 10% of what you have done to help and inspire fellow PGA Professionals, then I will consider myself very successful.
Looking forward to seeing you again and being part of The Road Trip 2014.

Dear Jeff,
I would like to thank you and the team for the great two days of competition amongst the
pros in the Pro-Pro Road Trip. It was nice to see a few old friends and to meet some others for the first time. I would also like to thank Mike Wylie and W.H.B.O for their generous sponsorship of the event.
I am sure all the pros are very grateful for what Mike and W.H.B.O have done for them in the past few years.
Kind Regards.

Good morning Jeff,
How do I start this mail about the road trip. Well, once again you and your team put on an event that is truly world class. I have played around the world and taken part in many golf days and pro-ams and I must tell you, they could. all learn from you on how to stage an outstanding and successful tournament.
I am very aware that events like this do not take place without sponsors.
If you would be so kind as to pass on our appreciation to WBHO for the prize money and support they have shown us over the years.
Lang, from Global Golf/Ahead for their fantastic contribution of apparel over the years, (that has all gone to Sean by the way. Lol )
Last but not least St Francis Links, the board, committee and members for giving us their world class golf course for two days.
I would especially like to thank yourself and Liezll for all you have done for us over the years. The work that you and your team put in to make the stay and tournament run without a hiccup "again" is very much appreciated.
The two of you are very special and are much appreciated by all (you definitely complement and complete each other). What a couple!!!
Looking forward to seeing you both again soon.

My Friends in the business…some of the best!
In the front row with me are four of my Head Professionals, Justin, Ryan Dodds, now the General Manager at The Heritage in Mauritius, Meyer DuToit, The Director of Golf at San Lameer, and Peter Berman, owner of Scratch Golf In Knysna; unable to attend was my 1st Head Professional, Wayne Krambeck, the CEO at Cotswold Downs and former PGA Professional of the Year!
I LOVE MY JOB!
