Great advise from PGA Pro Teddy Webber

Teddy Webber is a small man with a big hart, one of the nicest people I have met and a true legend of the game. He joined the PGA in 1978 and held the Club Professional position at Royal Salisbury (now Harare) Golf Club until 1981.

He was the PGA Teacher of the year 2005 and I decided to pay him a visit at his Golf Academy at Atlantic Beach Golf Estate just outside Cape Town.

He immigrated to South Africa in 1981 and joined the Parkview Golf Club in Johannesburg as Club Professional until 1985, when he obtained his European Tour Card. He played on the European Tour until 1989 and carried on playing the Sunshine Tour until 1992. Teddy joined the Lost City Golf Club at Sun City to open the facility as Head Teaching Professional of the Titleist Golf Academy.

In 2000 he moved to Cape Town to open the golf operations at Atlantic Beach Golf Club as golf/teaching professional until 2005, when he opened the Teddy Webber Golf Academy, also at Atlantic Beach Golf Club.

He represented the PGA of South Africa on 2 occasions at the Team Championships in Tunisia.

If you need help with your golf game you can contact the Academy to book a lessons

Parow Golf Club

Parow Golf Club moved to its present position in 1976, when the local Municipality had the course built upon a design by Ken Elkin.

As far as accessibility and general playing friendliness is concerned, Parow Golf Club is one of the best in Cape Town. Parow is a flatland (park-like) course and has an abundance of bird-life due to the massive dam in the centre of the course. Peacocks, Plovers, Guinea fowl, Hadidas, Egyptian geese, Mallards, Teal, Grouse, Pheasant, numerous smaller species, Stork, Ibis and even some Pelicans abound. This is indeed a friendly, forgiving course with numerous water hazards and a prevailing southeaster wind driving away the City smog and the heat in summer. The best days, however, are found during June and July (beginning of winter), when the balmy wind-free and sunny days can only be described as Indian summer, and the first winter rains rejuvenate the course.

The greens are very well maintained, a mixture of bent and poa grasses. Large, with gentle slopes and ringed with bunkers, they are true and fast. The fairways are a mixture of Kikuyu and Cape winter grass, and the semi-rough is clearly defined. New pathways for carts have been laid and paved, and allow a smooth ride for those less energetic golfers who prefer a bit of luxury. We cater for these with a fleet of some 23 electric and motorized golf carts for hire.
We are proud of our course, and do not aspire for it to be changed into a champion tract. We cater for the average golfer, and try to make it as pleasant and friendly as possible, with magnificent views of the Table Mountain and the abundance of bird-life. Parow will certainly remain in your memory as one of the friendliest and playable of all the Cape Town courses.
