"On Friday, the 6th of June, we launched the par-3 course with our members and friends. The medal Alliance competition played in three hours and less (speed of play - mission accomplished); everyone found the course fair, yet challenging (playability and shot-making – mission accomplished); it was FUN – MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! "

Charl Blaauw, our SUP (with some inside information) fired the best score on the day.

Playing off 50% handicaps, because we had to start somewhere, the average men’s handicap for the day was 16,2 (8,1) and the ladies’ was 27 (13,5). The men averaged

69 gross and 61 nett for the course that measured 1931 metres. I goes to show you that golf is really played from the “green back to the tee” With our longest hole playing 130m, the best score on the day was 6-over par and our best net was 3-under par by Peter Maskew, who blazed the back nine in level-par 27 with 2, 2-clubs!

Cindy Mills had no problems with the layout as she led the ladies who played on the day.

Off her 23 handicap (12), she went out in 29 strokes, just 2-over par!

I can see from the averages for both the men and the ladies who played, short game practice and more play on the par-3 course will improve their games dramatically! When I watch people on the range pounding drivers to no end, I remember the words from the great Dave Pelz, who specializes in the short game – 48% of your game is played on the green and 75% of your game from 100m in. The scores proved that on Friday.

We had 36 golfers who played in our Opening Day. Many more wished they were here. For those of you who wish to play the Ultimate Par-3, special times will be set aside to allow for your FASTER PACE OF PLAY.

Ps. We discourage stopping for ½ way when playing the Ultimate Par-3! I am sure you can play 18 holes in nearly the time you played nine on the big course.
